My art, an ongoing exploration of nature and organic form, plays with the idea of transformation and finding beauty and poetry in the ordinary – the unnoticed and abandoned. The creative processes of drawing, painting and making photo assemblages spark joy, pleasure and aliveness in me. My work invites you to connect with generative nature of our changing earth.
My childhood was a potpourri of experiences which naturally led to becoming an artist. With two artistic parents who never shied away from any type of project, and exposure to both country and city life, I grew up with a love of nature and culture, and a passion for making things.
I was lucky to study at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. The late Susan Wood was a wonderful teacher and mentor who encouraged my exploration of moody florals. A focus on life drawing brought emphasis and attention to gesture and line into my current work as a painter.
Living on the West Coast really opened my eyes to the possibilities of landscape painting. During trips to the Okanagan, I was overwhelmed with the beauty and colours of the mountains. Likewise, the forests and the seawall walks, visually drew me in and made me want to try to interpret the landscapes through paint.
Since studying at the Vancouver Institute of Art Therapy I have worked part-time as an Art Therapist in healthcare with a focus on elder care. I currently live and work in Vancouver, on the unceded Musqueam territories, where I am grateful to have a studio and the time and ability to keep pursuing my passions.
